The Twisted Olive

I’ll admit, I had high expectations going to dine at The Twisted Olive in Green, Ohio, after all, this is a Gervasi Vineyard owned restaurant.  Gervasi Vineyard has two first-rate restaurants at their Vineyard in North Canton, Ohio. Could they pull off another dining sensation?

This fabulous building built-in 1993 was originally the estate home of Henry C. Beldon IV. Known as the Beldon Lodge, sitting on 205 acres, until it was sold to the City of Green in 2007 (becoming Southgate Park). The Swaldo family (Gervasi Vineyard) then purchased the building and 10 acres in 2013.

Walking in the doors of The Twisted Olive the staff was warm and welcoming. The décor of this 16,000 square-foot three-story restaurant has a soft rustic background with a blend of contemporary vibrant colors (olive green of course).  I love the large fireplaces on each end of the main dining area and seating that allows views of the lake and the wooded acreage. Many of the original home features have been kept intact throughout the restaurant.

The menu is upscale American Italian fare of pizza pies, burgers, sandwiches, and entrees but with “a twist”. Our waitress was super nice and very knowledgeable about the menu.  If you have never tried Gervasi’s award-winning wines, ask for a wine tasting flight to try a few.  They also have their own crafted beers available brewed from the Thirsty Dog Brewery.

We started with an appetizer of seasonal spicy hot peppers and a bottle of my favorite Gervasi wine Romanza and my husband’s favorite Piove.  A lot of flavor packed into those peppers, I could have ordered another.  For the main course, classic (smashed) beef meatballs over garlic bread with marinara sauce and lots of cheese. The portions were large (this was lunch) and the meatballs were oh so tender.  Dessert was a warm berry cobbler with ice cream.  Everything was cooked perfectly. I walked away more than satisfied!

After lunch we took a tour through the upper and lowers levels of the restaurant. Upstairs is a small library and boardroom. Downstairs is a large, accommodating Pub and more private dining area options for special events. The patio area is opened during the summer months (this is Ohio) with more generous views of the lake.

You’ll notice as you walk into the Twisted Olive there is a wine store just off to your right, I wanted to check that out before we left.  Gervasi wines, wine accessories and lots of cute gifts to choose from.

I always like my reviews to be objective, but overall, I think the Swaldo Family has created another memorable dining experience with The Twisted Olive.  The staff, menu and ambiance of The Twisted Olive have exceeded my expectations!

  1. This looks like a beautiful restaurant, it sounds very appealing but that could also be because of your description – I’m salivating at the thought of the delicious lunch … and it’s only breakfast time!! Would definitely check out The Twisted Olive when in this area!

  2. I really enjoy your writing style, it’s descriptive but also feels casual and personal. The Twisted Olive looks like a nice restaurant, and you know your going to be able to have a nice drink with it if it’s at a vineyard. Does Ohio have many vineyards? When it comes to America, I’ve honestly only heard of Napa.

    1. Thank you so much, I am glad you enjoyed reading my blog! Ohio has about 300 wineries & vineyards. There are so many wineries from upstate New York all the way to Florida!

      1. Oh wow, there you go! I don’t know a whole lot about wine to be honest and I’m only really familiar with Australian wine regions (being from Australia ;)).
